They support the various RI projects particularly in Africa and South America.

Announcements
Kim Wilkins thanked all those who volunteered at the last bookstall which raised $760. The next bookstall will be held at the Plaza on Sunday, 25 November.
Kim also spoke of the Seven Bridges walk on Sunday, 28 October. He will be taking part so if anyone else would like to join him please contact him.
Kim commended “Clink for a Cause” and suggested everyone share the details of the function on their own social media pages to encourage others to attend.

Eleanor Chevor spoke about StreetWorks’ upcoming “Glam & Grunge” night on Friday, 2 November, and encouraged all members to get the message out into the community about “Clink for a Cause”.  Apart from being a fundraiser, the aim is also to engage the community in a Rotary event.

Angie Fernandes reported on the new Rotaract program which is currently in the process of being established by several local Rotary clubs. A first meeting for the planning is to take place shortly.

Sally O'Neill reported that one of Sailability's boats had been loaned to a crew for the Invictus Games and that it had won Australia a gold medal.

Club Forum
John Turner updated the members on the current status of the Visioning Plan. The Board is totally committed to the visioning project and much time is spent at board meetings on this.  John Turner and Sally O’Neill are facilitating the visioning plans within the various committees, with each committee director owning the proposed projects assisted by the facilitators who will ensure progress remains on track.

Reports
In the absence of several directors, President Ranald updated the meeting on International, Membership and PR.

International:  $3000 has been donated to Nusa Tengarra Association, matched by RI, for the building of water tanks.
Liz Grey, Barry Anderson and Luke Keighery have recently returned from Letefoho where they conducted a review of the water project funded by RCN. The project has successfully brought water to schools, the clinic and the marketplace.
A further project, the Amira water project, is planned for a village in East Timor. An application has been lodged with RI to assist with funding, and Barry’s absence at tonight’s meeting is due to his attendance at Roseville Rotary where he is presenting to them on this project as they are looking to contribute $5000.

Membership:  Ranald updated us on the status of proposed new members, a retiring member and potential new members.

PR Report:  Ranald advised Karin Eurell is heading up PR & communications. A number of articles have already been prepared for The 202, our Facebook pages and our website. Karin is in contact with the editors of The 202 and the marketing manager of Northbridge Plaza with whom we have a good relationship.

Club Service:  Alan Hession reported on various aspects of club service including the speaker program, plans to visit and work on projects with Mosman, North Sydney Sunrise and Chatswood rotary clubs.

Youth:  Kevin Tattrie reported on Youth whose vision is to double spending on the youth program. He advised that 6 positions have been sponsored for the Conoco Philips Science Fair, summer RYPEN and winter RYPEN have 4 participants each and that generally our sponsorship of youth has increased from 9 participants to 18.

Vocational:  Garth Carter reported that Mock Interviews at WGHS are set to take place in November and Pride of Workmanship in April. The thrust of Vocational is to get close to local business, to introduced them to Rotary’s 4-way test and encourage them to become members of Rotary with a view at a later stage, if appropriate, to forming a Chamber of Commerce.

Community:  Rob Coote reported on community and fundraising. Their vision is to improve engagement with StreetWorks and build a better relationship with local schools and sporting clubs as well as corporates. There is already RCN involvement with Early Ed on 10 November and “Soar & Roar” for Special Olympics on 9 December with 12 Rotary volunteers participating. Initial preparations for the Rotary Fireworks, tentatively to be held on 11 May 2019, will commence soon. Other activities planned for 2019 are the Bridge Day, Comedy for a Cause and the Grolman Challenge.

At the conclusion of the Club Forum, Sergeant Fay Petrou managed to extract funds from all present.

Second Bridge Day a Big Success
The Rotary Club of Northbridge held its second successful Bridge Day on 30 August 2018.  Eighty-four guests played a full day of Bridge and enjoyed a delicious morning tea and lunch with a glass of wine at Northbridge Golf Club.

Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney opened the event and spoke to the Bridge-players about Willoughby Council initiatives, including the upcoming Spring Fair.  She then introduced speakers from the two worthy causes that benefit from this event.  Firstly, Rotarian Barry Anderson described the Rotary Water Reticulation Project in East Timor and how an entire community will have access to clean, running water. Then Steve Jones spoke about Kids Like Brett, a local charity that donates life-saving medical equipment to children’s hospitals.

The Club raised $3,500.00 from ticket sales and a raffle with fabulous prizes including a beautiful quilt made by Elva Alma, family passes to the Maritime Museum, hair products and a voucher from Glamourpuss Salon and dinner vouchers for the Harbourside Restaurant.
Many of the guests attended for the second year in a row and are already looking forward to next year’s event for a delightful day of Bridge while raising funds for worthwhile local and international causes.

THE 4 - WAY TEST of the things we say or do

1). Is it the TRUTH?
2). Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3). Will it build GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4). Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
