Club Bulletin News 12 December 2023
President Luke opened the club's first breakfast meeting, and welcomed members, our guest speaker Melanie Lewis and guests Marillyn Stewart and Luke’s son-in-law, Michael Marlow.
Maggie Shanahan proposed a toast to the Rotary Club of Crows Nest, a club chartered by the Rotary Club of North Sydney in 1969 which in turn sponsored the start of Northbridge Rotary. Their fundraising includes Bunnings BBQs and provisions staff for the Crows Nest Fair.
President Luke made several announcements as follows:
  • This is the last Rotary meeting for the year and the next one will be on the 9 January.
  • The next Bunnings BBQ is at Chatswood East Bunnings on Saturday, 6 January. Sally O’Neill is still looking for more volunteers. Please contact Sally if you can help.
  • The club’s 40th anniversary dinner is on the 6 February at Foys at Kirribilli and requires a booking. Please book online at Rotary Northbridge's 40th Anniversary | Humanitix
  • The Rotary District Conference will be held at Terrigal on the 15 & 16 March 2024. Earlybird registration runs out on the 31 December so book now. Please let Luke know when you have booked, which you can do online at . Accommodation is available at Luke will form a What’s App Group to keep attendees updated with future information.
  • The Christmas raffle has already sold $2,400 worth of tickets. Alan Hession advised that it was on again this weekend and that they still had 2 positions to fill. Two members volunteered to do so.
  • Bob Edwards announced that during the Black Friday Sales he and Michelle Barry had purchased a lot of items including toys, pencils and crayons for the children and teenagers at RNSH NICU. Currently nursing staff have been buying these items out of their own pockets.
  • Bob also spoke about Streetwork advising he was putting together a plan for further funding an organisation the club has long supported.  He summarised their work with youth, one of their main aims being to keep young people out of the police system.
  • Luke spoke about the Tree of Joy at the Plaza and Ranald Stewart advised that gift wrapping will take place at his home at 1pm next Monday, 18 December. Please contact Ranald if you can help out for an hour.
  • The Starlight Foundation collected the first portion of unwrapped gifts and the second instalment to be wrapped at Ranald's house will be going to a first nations charity.
With thanks to Kim Wilkins
Merry Christmas to all club members, and a BIG thank you to Ros Virtue, Sally O'Neill, Kim Wilkins & Malcolm Lye for taking notes at every club meeting which enables me to produce the Bulletin each week. They've been fabulous!
Have a great Christmas break and see you all back on 9 January!
